Only Richardson Can Win In Nov 08

Touting change is a red herring. Any Democrat will bring change. The
next economic and political battles will be waged on the world stage;
globalization is a reality and the next president must be ready to hit
the ground running on it. Only Governor Bill Richardson has this
kind of world and hands- on executive experience and the required
credentials; there is no time for OJT. Do we really need another Eva Peron?
Do we need a legislative short term ingenue? Do we need a light weight,
well groomed president? And any one of these three will lose in
November, 08 against a moderate Republican such as McCain.
Richardson received 40% of the New Mexico Republican vote; only he
will attract enough Republican and independent votes to win the
presidency. Hopefully early primary voters will put on their thinking
caps and realize they are not electing a Prom Queen or King.

Miami Herald Letter to the Editor Sep 20, 2007

Letters to the Editor (As edited and published)
Stars continue to shine
Re the Sept. 18 letter Too much Estefan: With legendary performers like Gloria Estefan, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, even Little Richard, it is not their last few songs that make them popular and revered. It is their ability to capture the essence of a personal style or period of our life and preserve it, verbalize it and even shape it that makes them stars.

Even as a gringo who came here from St. Louis in 1969, in Estefan's work, I see and feel the longing, dreams and spirit of a fine people who lost so much. And her message reverberates among many displaced peoples.

Estefan was not on the front page because of her last song. She was there because of what she has come to represent. The letter writer's view must be a product of a throwaway society with little history or grace.

Here is the whole letter:

Ms. Rose Mendoza, Miami, wrote: "She had her day".

Poor Ms. Mendoza, have you so little grace? With legendary performers
like Gloria Estefan, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, even
Little Richard, it is not their last few songs that make them popular
and revered. It is their ability to capture the essence of a personal
style or period of our life or history and preserve it, verbalize it and
even shape it that makes them stars. Even as a gringo who came
here from St. Louis in 1969, in Gloria's work, I can see and
feel the longing, dreams and spirit of a fine people who lost so
peoples.

Gloria was not on the front page because of her last song. She was there
because of what she has come to represent. If you cannot see this, pity.
This must be product of a throw away, disposable society with little history,
or grace.

Message to Gov. Howard Dean DNC Chairman

RE: FLORIDA PRIMARY. WAY TO GO GOV. DEAN! BUT DON'T STOP NOW!

Moving the date of the Florida primary is Carl Rove at work. He used
his Republican goons in the Florida legislature to out
maneuver the Democrats. TOTALITARIANISM! THAT IS WHAT
WE ARE LIVING UNDER! START USING THE WORD TO DESCRIBE
Bush Chaney Rove and Baker! Take off the gloves. Don't
stop now! Go after the self-serving, manipulative, power
mongers! They have executed a coup; these four people
run our government. Start to tell it like it is.

American Airlines: Dysfunctional, Disrespectful, Disgusting

Letter To The Editor - Miami Herald
(Published almost infull August 22, 2007 by the Miami Herald)

American Airlines: Dysfunctional, Disrespectful, Disgusting

On April 12, American Airlines cancelled our 11:00 A.M. Miami flight
to New York. My wife and I spent the whole day at the airport and
arrived at our son's home at 4:30 A.M. on Friday, and then only because
our travel agent was able to get the last two seats on the 10:00 P.M.
flight which left at 11:30 P.M. On August 18, my brother and
sister-in-law had their 11:15 A.M. American Airlines Miami-New Orleans
flight cancelled ("because American needed the plane elsewhere").
They reached their home at 1:30 A.M. on the 19th. About a year ago
we arrived in Miami on American only to wait over an hour for our
luggage. The supervisor eventually told us they only had two people
unloading several flights that evening.

Is this the airline into which Miami has poured millions of dollars? Is
this the airline to which the U.S. Congress has given billions in
subsidies as well as work rule and tax concessions thanks to
extensive lobbying?

It looks like American Airlines has outgrown its ability to function.
The best fudge is made in small batches; this is no longer good
fudge. My son and his family fly Jet Blue when they can. They
have never experienced such delays.

Maybe it is time to let the major airlines and their excessive pay
structure and work rule burdens fail and let the more functional
small airlines survive. This is certainly one case where bigger
is not better.

Miami Herald prints edited letter of July3

The Miami Herald published this edited version of my July 3
Letter to the Editor - Posted on Wed, Jul. 04, 2007

Jeers for commuted sentence
Re the July 3 story Bush bypasses usual process in commuting Libby's term: When the Bush administration's coup doesn't work, it hides behind constitutional powers. Bush and his administration have no shame. A pox on them and their despicable government.

Bush Commuts Libby Sentence - The Last Straw

If ever there was a doubt that we are under a Totalitarian government, it has now been removed. Bush
and his entire administration should be treated as a pariah by the left and the right. When their coup does
not work, they hide behind constitutional powers. They have no shame. They have no conscience. And they
don't give a damn about anyone except themselves, Republican or Democrat. A pox on them and their
despicable government. Any invitation to speak or visit publicly or privately by anyone in this government
should be cancelled and none should be made for the balance of their tenure in office. Enough.

Republican Goons - Editorial Published Nov, 2000

It is interesting to look back almost eight years to this letter I sent to the Editor of the Miami Herald which was published.
Sad to say, the predictions were more than fulfilled, and we are not yet finished with this scourge. Bush, Cheney, Rove
and Baker have completed a coup and replaced our Democracy with a Totalitarian State. When will the current Democratic
candidates take off the gloves and state this. A TOTALITARIAN STATE! A COUP! THESE FOUR GUYS ARE IT! THEY RUN
THE GOVERNMENT! IT MUST BE SAID OUT LOUD! Read this from eight years ago:

I was an observer for the Democrats on Wednesday morning Nov. 22 at Government Center when the Republicans unleashed their venom on an innocent Democratic Party official accusing him of stealing what turned out
to be a sample ballot. These goons apparently succeeded in intimidating the
canvassing board into canceling any recount. So much for their commitment to upholding the edict of the Florida Supreme Court and for their concern for the voice of the people of Miami-Dade County. The, strong-armed conniving and mean spiritedness of the Republicans in sending in these thugs and the obfuscation of James Baker and of the governor of Montana foretells the tenure of the, next four years under a Republican administration. Big business will have a field day while the rest of us lose control over those elements that affect our daily lives. No wonder those who look ahead see fascism rising followed by anarchy of those who feel disfranchised. All we can count on from Bush is a commitment to the values of conservatism, protectionism and cultural atrophy. the price of liberty is eternal vigilance and, boy, will we have to keep our eyes open for the next four years if we lose this fight.
